INTO THE BARRELNihiwatu, Sumba, Indonesia

It’s really more a portrait of the Shawn’s effort than the surfing itself. A nice moment that just happened, without too much planning. One of my favourites, though.

A bit of apparent contradiction: yes, we plan, we study the wave, the surfer style, we pre-focus, ask the skipper for nice positioning, but specially when there are many surfers in water, there are always good surprises, so be attentive and fast, expecting the unexpected, whether it’s a huge wipe-out, an aerial or even a duck-dive.
